5-AXIS FEMTOSECOND LASER MACHINING

Sunlight-Tech, Inc. utilizes advanced 5-axis femtosecond laser technology to create micro features in a wide range selection of materials.  Our technology produces no heat affected zones and non-contact stress, resulting in a high surface finish and edge quality. It also provides burr-free cutting edge on a large variety of materials such as steel, stainless steel, nitinol, aluminum, carbide, brass, graphite, copper and other ferrous/non-ferrous materials.

Production process can be fully automated while maintaining superior accuracy and repeatability on a sub-micron level. This can be achieved because process does not involve any traditional tooling that can degrade as a result of wear as seen in traditional CNC or EDM machining processes.

We have the capability to create unique shapes - such as positive and negative taper, or a straight wall.  We can create features that change shape - circular entrance to elliptical exit.  We are capable of cutting squares, or rectangles with sharp corners (less than 25um radius) star patterns, triangles, circular, or elliptical and many more other shapes that are impossible to do with standard micro-milling machining, or EDM machining.

5-axis femtosecond laser has been incorporated within several critical applications in automotive, medical and consumer product manufacturing including:

- Drilling automotive fuel injectors nozzles, where by manipulating hole dimensions, designers are able to create spray patterns that result in more efficient combustion with less fuel to boost engine efficiency
- Machining medical catheter tips that are able to deliver liquid to cool heart tissue during ablation procedures to avoid unnecessary burning and scarring
- Cutting the hardened glass used by mobile device displays that can be machined without forcing micro cracks that impair the structural integrity of the display
- Machining intricate watch gears that must be able to interact in order to keep perfect time.
